What we're fighting for

To better align the University with its core purpose, “To Transform Lives for the Benefit of Society,” we advocate for the development and implementation of a comprehensive Climate Action Plan that encompasses bold and decisive measures to mitigate our carbon footprint by reducing our direct and indirect reliance on nonrenewable energy sources. We call upon President Jay Hartzell, UT Austin, and the UT System Board of Regents to:

1. ACKNOWLEDGE THE CLIMATE CRISIS

2. ACCELERATE THE RENEWABLE ENERGY TRANSITION ON UNIVERSITY LANDS

3. STRATEGICALLY DIVEST FROM FOSSIL FUELS

4. INCREMENTALLY RE-INVEST IN NON-FOSSIL FUEL RELATED INVESTMENTS

5. REENVISION THE CARL J. ECKHARDT NATURAL GAS POWER PLANT

6. ACHIEVE CARBON NEUTRALITY BY 2040

7. FORM A DEMOCRATIC CLIMATE ACTION PLAN COMMITTEE

If you believe we can do better too, let the University know by signing our petition! Together, we can truly embody the spirit of "What Starts Here Changes the World."

Who We Are

Students Fighting Climate Change strives to create an inclusive, positive community for climate action to give people hope and humanize one another as we all face the climate crisis.

  • We provide a platform for members to learn about, politically engage in and become an activist for climate change.

  • We work in cooperation with UT to get the administration to publicly acknowledge the severity of the climate crisis and the inevitable effects on the student body so UT can become a leader in climate change acknowledgment and action.

  • We are building a movement to build our future.
